A four-storey building under construction has collapsed on Ogbalu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu, leaving one person dead and four others rescued.

The incident occurred at about 6 a.m. on Sunday while workers were reportedly sleeping at the site. One of the six people believed to have been there had left shortly before the collapse.

The rescued workers were taken to the Enugu State Teaching Hospital for treatment, while emergency agencies, including NEMA, SEMA, the Red Cross, the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority and the police, joined the rescue operation.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, while investigations and safety assessments continue.
