Trump Administration Revokes More Than 300,000 Visas Amid Immigration Crackdown

October 23, 2026 By Sheba James Gala
The administration of United States President Donald Trump has revoked more than 300,000 visas since he returned to office in January 2025, according to the US Department of State.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, marks a significant increase from the more than 175,000 visa revocations reported by the department in August, as the administration intensifies its immigration enforcement measures.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the government had adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards foreign nationals who violate visa conditions, commit fraud or pose threats to US national security.

“We have zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security,” Pigott said in a statement posted on X. He also claimed the administration had revoked visas at a faster pace than any previous US administration.

According to the department, visa revocations have involved foreign nationals accused of or found to have engaged in various offences, including assault, theft, driving under the influence and drug-related crimes. The administration has also revoked visas in cases involving alleged immigration fraud and individuals it considers threats to national security.

The crackdown has extended to tighter screening of visa applicants’ social media accounts. Some foreign nationals have also had their visas revoked over political activities or online comments, including posts concerning the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. These measures have drawn criticism from civil liberties advocates, who argue that some actions could infringe on freedom of expression and due process.

The Trump administration says the measures are necessary to protect Americans and enforce immigration laws. However, critics have raised concerns about the potential for politically motivated enforcement and racial profiling, particularly against immigrant communities.

The latest figures reflect the administration’s broader effort to tighten immigration controls, affecting both the enforcement of existing visa conditions and the screening of people seeking entry into the United States.
