Harry Kane Wins 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, Becomes First Englishman in 25 Years to Claim Award

October 29, 2026 By Sheba James Gala
Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to receive football’s prestigious individual award since Michael Owen in 2001.

Kane was announced as the winner at the 70th edition of the awards ceremony held at the London Palladium in England on Monday, October 26, 2026. He finished ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, who placed second, and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who came third.

The 33-year-old enjoyed an exceptional 2025/26 season, scoring 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England across all competitions. He scored 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern, helping the German club secure the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal, while also winning the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
Kane also delivered on the international stage, scoring six goals as England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His performances strengthened his case for the award and added to a season in which he emerged as one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers.

Reacting to the achievement, Kane expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career, including his teammates, coaches and family. He described the season as the best of his career and credited the collective effort of his Bayern Munich and England teammates for helping him reach the milestone.

Kane’s victory marks a significant moment for English football. He joins a select group of English winners that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. His triumph also adds the Ballon d’Or to the growing list of honours he has earned since joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
Meanwhile, Spain and Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third time after helping Barcelona enjoy a successful season. Other winners included Yamal, who received the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award, and Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón, who won the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year prize.
